ULTRA DE LA RUE: CONTEMPORARY URBAN GRAPHICS EXHIBITION
In 2009 Amsterdam celebrates 400 years of relations with New York. As part of the NY400 Hudson year and the New York Nights Program an international exchange between graphic designers and street artists from New York and Amsterdam will take place in the Dutch capital from March 26th to April 12th.
NYC artists Ellis Gallagher , Mike Perry, Rich Jacobs, Chris Stain, Taylor Mckimens, will work together with local artists such as Lok Jansen, Jeroen Koolhaas, Wayne Horse, Twothings, Lilshy, RMND, on a one-off exhibition at the Prins Hendrikkade 33. This former public building is currently empty and will be developed into the first art’otel in Amsterdam.
The exhibition Ultra de la Rue: Contemporary Urban Graphics opens on April 4th and shows the work of all the artists participating in the exchange. On April 26th the exhibition closes with a lecture series that dives deep into graphic design and its relation to the contemporary city.
The New York ♥ Amsterdam Exchange Project is organized by creative agency AFARAI and the Ultra de la Rue Foundation in cooperation with Park Plaza Hotels, art’otel, Sid Lee, Mikosa and Wolf&Pack, Mather Kunst and the American Book Center and supported by Amsterdam Topstad and the Amsterdams Foundation for the Arts.
